| Crown Trade Paperbacks, New York 1996 Review: I have read a lot of books on feng shui, and this was the most useful of all. The author methodically walks you through each step, in an in-depth manner. Most feng shui books tell you to “put something there, put something here” but this book tailors everything to YOU THE READER. It starts out with basic Chinese astrology charts. After that, you work with your own floor plan and possible colors and furniture arrangement. The chapter that was most meaningful to me was on clutter, and the relationship of clutter to problems in your life. Lo and behold, we had clutter in each financial corner of every room in our house. As soon as I read it, I dropped the book, jumped up and cleaned out each corner (you’ll have to read the book to find out which corner of each room that is). Our financial worries are vastly reduced since that time 3 months ago, and I’ve gone to apply the principles quite seriously. Even my little children know not to let things pile up in the corners because Mommy says its “bad luck.”

| Random House, New York Review: I have several hundred books on decorating, and this is on my top ten list. Through detailed questionnaires, the authors help you narrow and define your own personal style. Then, through superb photography and text, they show you how to achieve the rich, opulent look that will suit you on a budget.. This book is divided into different styles, and covers them all well. The only person who might not benefit from this one is a pure minimalist, and even she (or he) would love the elegant Japanese style as presented here. This book is on my permanent bookshelf and is a keeper….I never loan this one out.

Review: Publishers Weekly
With the grace, warmth and cultural savvy that is their signature, the editors of House & Garden provide a sampling of the cream creations of international decorating masters, many of which appeared previously in the magazine. From the formal, Baroque grandeur of Geoffrey Bennison’s Manhattan pied-a-terre for the Baron Guy de Rothschilds to the functional minimalism of Jack Ceglic’s black-and-white East Hampton, N.Y., cottage for Joel Dean (of Dean & DeLuca), the breadth of styles reflected in this seductively photographed collection promises a richly satisfying perusal. Favoring the eclecticism of the 19th century, Mario Buatta transforms writer Taki Theodoracopulos’s American brownstone into a chintz-saturated Victorian townhouse; Peter Marino returns Esquire magazine chairman Christopher Whittle’s New York apartment in the Dakota to its original fin de siecle opulence with Sultanabad carpeting and jewel-colored silk damasks. Others focus on visualizing the essence of their inspiring clients. A section on the designers “at home” offers illuminating self-portraits that tend to be less “done” and more fantastical. September
