Examples: “a marvelous beach with weird red rock formations” “it is our thought that the ready-made local shoes are not suited to the [narrow] American foot…because the Spanish foot is short and wide” “you’ll be overwhelmed by a flood of what may…be described as plain unadulterated pests, offering unwanted services, selling useless knicknacks…” “after a pause (averaging 10 minutes!), while the clerk looks for his forms….”
I always consult it for information about what to see and what to expect. I wish other writers would add some of Myra’s lovely “salt and pepper” to their books or that Myra would update her 1980′s Europe books, if she is still living and able.
